Sustainability
Sustainability, in my opinion, has several different meanings depending on the subject that it is pertaining to. I can identify 3 distinct categories that make up sustainabilty--social, economical, and environmental. Balancing these 3 elements is difficult across borders because of the different policies, norms, and belief systems that each country abides by. Sustainability is interpreted differently in each particular culture, based on their 'reality' (i.e., due to disease, money, war, and whatever else that can contribute to its quality of life). Also, every species has a unique set of needs that it is dependant on; it is important to realize that one's needs can effect the life of another species. However, it is impossible to fully resolve this problem and leave everybody satisfied. The concept of sustainability, of using resources in a way that leaves less of an environmental, social, and economical footprint, can be a type of compromise.
