Population Control

 Just letting it flow...

An interesting topic was brought about in my Enviornmental Science class when we began talking about population growth in our world. It took us at least 3,000 years to have one billion people on this planet. Now, it took us 22 years to increase from 5 billion to 7 billion people on this planet. The way that our population is growing is a rapid pace which gets into the idea that we need to do something in order to save our resources. Logically speaking, the more people there are on this planet the more resources we are going to use. Eventually with this rapid growth we will run out resources sooner then we think.

We have two options, either find a way to increase our food supply, or find a way to control the population. Now there are very plossible explanations for each idea. Personally, I do not beleive that we have the abbilty to increase our food supply.

Increase Food Supply:

1. Increase amount of aerable land

2. Eat lower on the food chain

3. Eat food from the sea (kelp)

4. Increase amount of pesticides (DDT)

5. Genetic engineering

People beleive that these ideas are plossible, and I beleive that they only truely think this way because of the fact that they feel that the alternative is "morally incorrect."

Population Control:

1. Euthanasia (voluntary yet I beleive it's completely wrong, however it is still an option)

2. Sterilant in water supply

3. Subsidized birth control with instructions

4. Sex Education

5. Paul Elrich "Kill the Pope" (or in other words change in religious views)

6. Subsidized Abortions

7. Subsidized Sterilization

8. Birthing License

9. Luxury Tax on Children

If you were to sit there as a person with morals and ask yourself which proposal is reasonable you probably wouldn't be able to make a "just" decision that makes you feel good about yourself.

....More to come later.
