What is the meaning of life? Is this a question that can really be answered? This has been the subject of scientific, philosophical and spiritual speculation. Many people search to find the true meaning of life, will we ever find it? There is a continued debate over which answer to the question “what is the purpose of life?” If there even is one.
In order to search for the meaning of life, where exactly would one look, who knows what your even looking for? Can it be found by perfecting our looks, personality, character, finding our soul, finding happiness in our lives, finding God, or just living day by day?
According to the media, finding your purpose in life can be achieved by making yourself look better. Some people think that by changing yourself you can make people like you can in turn it will make you a better person, some people will even go as far as to physically alter their looks by surgery to attain the “perfect human” look. Most of us, or at least the rational ones, know that there is no “perfect human,” stereotypical looks change in each society and culture all over the world. Unfortunately people strive to look the way society wants them to look, in ours that would be tall, tan, blonde, extremely skinny, some people even undermine their intelligence because they think that is attractive to others. People to work hard to look perfect to other people often are not happy within themselves.
Everyone has a different personality, its what makes us who we are. Although many people try to change their personality to make others approve of them more, they change it for their job, their family or their friends. Our personalities do not restrict themselves to one organized expression like character would. The originality of a persons personality is special to that person, and them only.
A character is something different than a personality. A personality can vary from time to time within a person, character traits are constant and timeless. Even though personality and character are two very separate things, they go hand in hand, you need one to work with the other. Character traits can include trust, honesty, respect, leadership, courage and loyalty. Many people judge others on their character, it’s the concrete that lies deep within us.
Everyone wants to be happy throughout his or her life. We all strive for it and all have our own opinions of exactly what happiness is. Many believe that it can be found in many different ways and will do anything to get it. A lot of people think that money will give them happiness, and their meaning in life is just buying anything that makes them happy for that moment in time. When we read magazines, watch TV, or listen to the radio, they all portray stars and celebrities that have money as happy, worry-free, living life, and having fun, although what they don’t tell you is that they are also committing suicide and doing drugs. Its obvious that when people commit suicide and do extensive drugs that they are not happy this is where money can not fill the gap in their lives. In reality, no human being can realistically live “worry-free” we all have our own obstacles to over come, it’s the way we overcome them that can make us enjoy our lives or not.
We all have to grow up at one point or another, and will have hardships in our lives while doing so. We also have responsibilities, that we have to take care of, its while doing so when we can truly find our purpose.
We all have commitments in life wether it changes for the good or bad. There is a purpose to live everyday, it could be for our families, our jobs, our friends, or happiness we are all striving for something that can make us feel “complete”.
I feel that the answer to the question “what is the meaning of life” lies deep within each of us, rather than just a general answer given to anyone. We each go through life in a different way therefore will all have different answers to this controversial question, I feel that we can only find the answer through the search within ourselves. Our life experience will give us the answer, one day or another.
