Working as a teenager will make you more successful later.

We all want to live like the rich and famous. Compared to the rest of the world the life style in the United States is something that many dream of. Even the poorest of the poor do not compare to the poorest of the poor in other countries. Growing up in two different countries has definitely opened my eyes to many things especially realizing the great opportunities the United States has to offer me. I am often asked " would you ever go back to live in chile?" my response is always " no". As much as i love Chile and i think its a great country, lets face it, i could not accomplish in Chile what i could accomplish living here. First of all my goals and expectations for life are far more than what living there would offer me. Dont get me wrong many people are extremely well of as people here, but for me education here is so much better and the chance to succeed the way i picture it is higher if is stay.

My topic came about my frustration with finding a job. Ever since i was 15 years old i have worked, so its no suprise to me to say that being unemployed is extremely difficult to deal with. Even though i have found myself complaining "I wish I wasnt working!" the majority of the time, i now see that not working is a lot harder. The legal age for working in the United States is 15, and you can only really work as a bagger at a grocery store, but even slaving away packing groceries and getting carts, is an important lesson that teenagers such as myself will learn. Compared to Chile (where i am from) the legal working age is 18, which in my opinion is too old. From what i have seen most of my friends in Chile never have had a job, ofcourse job oppurtunities do not compare to those here. Still by being able to work at a young age teaches skills that we will require in the future. If at this age, you are allowed to work, its really training you for the future, experiencing responsability at a young age could only make you a better worker when you go into "the real world". I am much more prepared to go on into a job than lets say someone that has never worked or maybe had one small job.

No matter if you are the bagger at Albertson's or a Courier at a Law Firm, disciplinary and responsability are two things you will gain that will benefit you.

On the other hand having a job can complicate things rather than make them better. For example being a full time student and having a part time job could get tricky to manage. Going to school is in itself a job, we are required to do well and keep up with our work in order to graduate and suceed.
