1. Graphical representation of your writing/composing process
Will post later =)
2. A reflective cover letter that addresses how you are meeting the following student learning outcomes completed to date:
-modes of blogging and informal writing: academic, political/community-based, and personal
If I haven’t said it before I will say it now. I'm not a blogger. I don't think anyone would find what I have to say interesting. I’m not deep. I’m not overly enthusiastic about anything, I have my opinions and sometimes I just prefer to keep them to myself. I try not to share everything about me with total strangers because its just not me, the only thing about is i feel like it's getting me a bad grade in this class. Also, i feel as if your opinions don't match those in the "higher power", it is going to affect your grade in a negative fashion which is not fair.
-situating your writing: Analyzing, synthesizing, and composing with sources
I didn’t really use any sources because my paper was just about myself. I did have to analyze it and omit events that i felt were not of great importance to keep the reader drawn into the story.
composing processes: argument and persuasion
If we are to write about an "argument" or something we feel strongly about I would try to compel the reader into seeing my point of view. Not necessarily agreeing with it but seeing it. There are lots of different things that make people think the way they do, so in some instances you do not know the circumstances on what makes someone the way they do.
-multimedia: visual analysis and composition, aural analysis and composition
I didn’t really use any audio or visual representations in my work, though if it can boost my class grade I’ll definitely reconsider and add some.
-collaborative, coordinated, or distributed writing: linking, interacting, and responding in writing to/with peers.
I tried to collaborate with people in the class on what to do. I feel as if i interacted well with my classmates. I responded well with the grading of peers papers.
-writing in the disciplines: connecting your writing to research and scholarship in a specific field
Since English is the basis of everything in this country, composition falls under the category of necessary classes to take. I think it is good to have comp. as a required class because every field in which people are going to major in has to have a foundation. And composition is that foundation. I'm a psychology major and feel like it is a good thing to know how to compose papers because I’m sure it will be something i need to know in the future.
Community Writing (outside of academia)
To be honest, I don't really do any writing outside of class unless it is required. Being a full time student and working two jobs takes up most of my time.
Rhetorical Knowledge
Audience: What have you learned about addressing an audience in _ writing?
I have learned that you need to be aware of WHO your audience is. Your writing style would definitely need to be adjusted if you are writing to a group of 7 year olds vs. a group of your college professors.
Purpose: What have you learned about the purposes of ___ writing?
At fist, my purpose of writing was to get a good grade. I was a good writer in high school so my first thought was oh, this is going to be a cake class. Woww was i wrong. this class hit me like a ton of bricks and that it was nothing like any class i have had before. I feel as if this class and I don’t mix well, because i'm use to more conventional classes and this one is far from it. But i'm trying my best but to SOME it seems as if your best effort really counts for shit.
Rhetorical Situation: How did the writing context affect your ____ text? How did your choice of topic affect the research you conducted and how you presented your exploration to your readers?
I did not really need to research because I know basically everything about my topic, which is why i chose it.
Voice and Tone: How would you describe your voice in this project? Your tone? How do they contribute to the effectiveness of your essay?
I would describe my tone to be a positive one, and I think an essay with a positive attitude is better than a melancholy one. In my opinion i would rather read something happy than be depressed.
Context, Medium, and Genre: How did your context determine the medium and genre you chose, and how did those decisions affect your writing?
After many rough drafts I finally just focused on something I knew well and figured i would be able to get a lot of words out of. Picking something i was passionate about made writing a lot easier than if i had to write about something that i had little to know interest in. I am also glad i picked something i know about rather than having to look EVERYTHING up.
Critical Thinking, Reading, and Writing
Learning/ Inquiry: How did you decide what to focus on in your writing? Describe the process you went through to focus on a main idea, or thesis. How did you judge what was most and least important in your exploratory writing?
I focused on different aspects of my gymnastics career picking out key points. I judged importance based on what i thought could hold readers attention and what was more interesting than other points.
Responsibility: How did you fulfill your responsibilities to your readers?
I believe that my responsibility to the readers was to write about something that was interesting to me and what helped to shape me to be who i am today. I hope i fulfilled anyone who read my paper =)
Reading and Research: What research did you conduct? How sufficient was the research you did? Why? What additional research might you have done?
I did not really conduct much research, the extent of it was digging into my brain for memories from the past. I didn't believe i needed to do anything additional.
Overall: As a result of writing this _________, how have you become a more critical thinker, reader, and writer? What critical thinking, reading, and writing skills do you hope to develop further in your next writing project? How will you work on them?
I think that i have learned how to take criticism and its something i will always need to learn how to take better. For my next writing project i will not wait until the last minute to write it because it usually takes me a while to get until the point where i get something i am happy with.
Composing Processes
Invention: What invention strategies were most useful to you? Why?
If brainstorming is an invention strategy, than brainstorming and thinking in my brain were the most useful to me.
Organizing Your Ideas and Details: What organization strategies have you used and learned? How successful was have they been?
Making flow charts , spider webbing, and bullet points are the most helpful ways of organization for me.
Revising: What one revision did you make that you are most satisfied with? What are the strongest and the weakest parts of the paper or other piece of writing you wrote for this chapter? Why? If you could go back and make an additional revision, what would it be?
I would like to make my paper longer, add more detail and more transitions. I'm most satisfied with the corrections of my grammar and pro
Working with Peers: How did your instructor or peer readers help you by making comments and suggestions about your writing? List some examples of useful comments that you received. List some examples of how you revised your exploration based on those comments and suggestions. How could you have made better use of the comments and suggestions you received? How could your peer readers help you more on your next assignment? How might you help them more, in the future, with the comments and suggestions you make on their texts?
I don't know.
Graphic, Visual, & Digital Composing: If you used photographs or other visuals to help present your exploration to readers, what did you learn about incorporating these elements?
I did not use any.
Becoming a Writer: What writerly habits have you developed, modified, or improved on as you constructed the assignments for this class? How will you change your future writing activities, based on what you have learned about yourself?
I will change my writing for the future by picking a topic and sticking to it. I won't change my mind about something to write 49856496 times. It won't hurt me to do a little research.
Conventions
Editing: What sentence-level problems did you find most frequently in your writing? How will you avoid that problem in future assignments?
n/a
Genre: What conventions of the genre, if any, gave you problems?
n/a
Documentation: If you used sources for your paper, what documentation style did you use? What problems, if any, did you have with it?
n/a
Writing Technologies
Think about the ways that you have used digital technologies over the course of the semester. What technologies are you using to facilitate the act of writing? How are you using them? What have been the benefits and drawbacks of the writing technologies you use specific to the rhetorical situation you have used them in?
Let's just say spell check is my best friend.
