The Final Project: have some fun!

the project can be in any medium but must have a "cover sheet" or statement of purpose on the wiki, and you have until next week to complete the project. Tomorrow in class we'll pin down a precise day (most likely Thursday) when I will be in my office to gather up non-wiki project materials. The project should attend to the needs of a specific audience and can sample from your best work. It can even be a significant revision (remix!) of your best paper, a revision that expands upon and elaborates upon your earlier effort.

Music Can Change the World

What is your thesis? How did this particular argument come about?

Thesis: Music is my passion. I found its melodic bonds at an early age and have grown with its structure and precision all of my life. From the first song I remember to the music I listen to now, music has changed my life as well as others.

Reason: I chose to write about this not only because one of our directions for the paper was to ‘have some fun” but also because music is a big part of who I am as well as many other people. I believe that music has changed the world in many aspects, and I wished to share this with the world.

Who's your audience and what techniques do you use to make your writing speak to their concerns and interests?

My audience is my English comp 1 class and who ever else they wish to share this with. I personally reached out to my class by breaking from the serious tone of the passage to write a personal side note that was bouncing around in my head, as well as others reading it. It was a sense of connection. I also used pathos by making the paper humorous so that they would enjoy it and know where I’m coming from. Logos was constantly used throughout the people by naming actual facts about band members and the paths they chose that ended up changing the world politically, emotionally, and economically.

Upon reviewing your completed composition (and process), what aspect of your work (or it's process) most surprised you?

I was surprised how well my jumbled out thoughts came in to fruition. However proud I was of that, I still wish I would have better described the benefits music had on the overall economy over the past decade as well as politically, instead of leaving the reader to assume they understood me.

Did you learn anything new while growing your composition? Explain. When you use secondary sources, do those sources contribute to ethos, logos, or pathos appeals

I realized how many good memories I have had with my family. This essay helped me to better analyze how much music has added to my life.

Music can change the world

Music is my passion. I found its melodic bonds at an early age and have grown with its structure and precision all of my life. From the first song I remember to the music I listen to now, music has changed my life as well as others.

*side note*: I remember my father and I sitting in his piece of shit Isuzu driving down 22nd Ave. here in St. Pete. Near Admiral Farragut Academy. I don’t know if you remember the Big Bopper but his song chantelle lace was always playing in my dad’s car. And as the song goes “Chantelle Lace had a purdy face and a pony tail hanging down. She has a wiggle in her walk and a giggle in her talk. Make the world go round round round, there aint nothing in this world like a big eyed girl. She’d make me act so funny, make me spend my money; make me act real loose like a long neck goose. Oh baby!! That’s what I like! Well there is a slight pause in between the “goose” and “Oh baby!! That’s what I like!” And this is when my dad would sing the verse of the song and he’d point to me and I’d continue the song. For a while we did this. My dad and I would just sing and sing and listen to the music and enjoy the Big Bopper. But one day I was in church with my mother and my father and it was one of the church days where everyone is in their Sunday’s best. It’s a sign of status when you bring your family into town for a big shindig like Easter service or something along those lines. Well the pastor was closing the service up and me being the bright and charming four year old girl, when the pastor bowed his head to pray I jumped up and yelled “Oh Baby!!! That’s What I Like!!” It wasn’t planned or anything, I just decided that it was the right thing to do at the time. If you ask me now why I did this I couldn’t possibly tell you the meaning I put behind it, but none the less I yelled out. My dad fell to the floor laughing. He was crying he was laughing so hard. My mom was furious. She grabbed me by the hand, kicking and screaming outside the church hall.*end side note*.

Anyway, as I was saying before I was interrupted by my thoughts on this situation. Where was I? Oh Yes Music…..

Music is a creator. It shapes, molds, expands, and evolves. It is alive. Music can move and learn. Music has developed into breathing, working, million dollar industry. It has great potential for good and some for bad. Music has brought ideas together as well as the people who decided to fathom such concepts. Music has changed culture. Music has made peace and compelled us to shed a tear or two. Music has the undenialeable way of reaching the core of a person. Whether it is hearing a song over and over again to the point you relate with the words or feelings of the singer, or the way music seems to brighten the worst of days. Music is a glorious gift that has been bestowed on mankind. The audio components of the human body are so elaborate that it processes millions of pitches and frequencies into audible sound at a rate faster than the beat of a hummingbird.

Music is a mood changer as well. Imagine your perfect song playing as your driving down the road. Whether it’s been a bad day or a good day, the right song or set of songs can lift even the darkest of moods. Music is the end all be all of awesomeness. I have found so much feeling in music. Personally I stick to the classics. I love classic rock, anywhere from 1930’s to the early 90’s. I love Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Parker, Coltrane, all the way up to Kurt Cobain and The Vandals. I do nothing but collect vinyl and listen to my records. I have an extensive collection that ranges through the decades.

But I find nothing better than the joy I get from finding new artists and listening to them. I find some I like and some I don’t but in all honesty I love music. Every style, every note, every chord, I love it all. I’ve taken music theory; I’ve taken classes and read many books on the subject. Music is without doubt the best thing man has ever invented.
