Brittney's Midterm Reflection

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 5 months ago

I'm glad that we get to use our laptops in class. I have to say I still don't like using the wiki. I really don't want the world to see everything I do every time I do it. Sometimes I get confused with the assignments about when their due or what's suppose to be done. But, I think I doing well in the class overall, it just that the class seems to be all over the place sometimes. When blogging I find topics that interest me, or topics that are assigned to me. Most of the time I don't want to blog about given topics because I have no interest in them, which translates into me not having an opinion or anything to blog about. I really don't respond to writing with peers, and they usually don't respond to me. Don't ask me why, there's not much I can do about peers not responding to me. I do link my writings to many pages so that they can be accessible from anywhere, and it'll be easy to find it.

When addressing an audience, I've learned that you must know what you're talking about and grab their attention. You have to engage them and be clear with the point you're trying to get across. You may be writing about what's interesting to you, but it may not interest your reader, so you have to make it interesting to them. I believe the purpose of writing is to express yourself. You want to get your point across and persuade your reader. I can't speak for any of my peers, but I think that my tone is good and clear when I write. I write to engage the reader, I want to make s they don't have to ask the meaning of any statements. When writing I tend to focus on the point I'm trying to get across. I usually lead up to it by giving a little background. I judge what's important based on its relationship to the topic and how well it helps get the point across. My responsibility to the reader is to make sure they understand and don't have any questions. Also to make sure they get the point and are engaged and interested. When writing on a specific topic, if I have no background knowledge or little knowledge, I have to do research to educate myself so I can relay accurate information to the reader. I've become a more critical thinker by having to write for an audience and by having to present/prepare my writings in the most clear and accurate manner. I have to know what to look for and how to respond intelligently. I hope to be able to make my writings flow better. This can be accomplished by writing on topics I already know a lot about. I'll be able to make everything make sense and fit together.

Making everything interconnect worked for me. When I wrote whatever I wrote about could be connected with something else. I found it easier to write when I did this, I didn’t have a block, so I could continue to write. When I get an idea I put it on paper so I don’t forget, then I go back and organize. They have worked, so I know where to take my writing. I really haven’t received any peer reviews, and the few that I did have really didn’t help me. I did receive good reviews and they helped me to know that I was on the right track, and not off in space somewhere. So, I can’t really comment on working with peers so far. I feel when I talk to the instructor I usually about an idea they help me shape and structure my paper, they seem to know where I want to go, and peers don’t. I used the paint program on my computer. It presented a challenge; it took me about ten minutes to figure out how to get it on the wiki. I feel they give the audience an idea of how you came up with your concept. I found that I would compose better when I was listening to contemporary jazz. I probably will continue to do that. I compose at the computer, but I outline and put my ideas on paper and think about what I going to write. I do better under pressure.

Coming up with the genre was the problem. I sometimes didn’t even know where to start. After a while I noticed that I seemed to write about my interest, like music and incorporate my future plans into papers and blogs. I really didn’t use any documentation, in my first paper on sustainability I made everything connect together. I really didn’t write anything that would have required me to use documentation. In my blogs I named my sources and/or provided a link

The only writing technologies I've really used have been my computer and printer. My printer doesn't have a scanner so I really can't put any of my graphical representations on the wiki. I would use my digital camera, but I'm missing a few parts that would allow me to get images onto the computer. I have embedded music and images from the internet onto my profile on the wiki. I use my computer for everything, to write, to listen and find new music, play games, etc. A drawback I have is composing at the computer. While composing on the computer, I don't think about the rhetorical situation.
