This is a continuation/ remix of the causal argument including videos.

The neighborhood someone comes from can cause them to react to situations differently. Say if you live in a good neighborhood where everyone knows everyone and has a neighborhood watch program, they might be more inclined to cooperate with authorities. One reason is because authorities might respond to them in a more timely and respectful manner. Also the people in these kinds of neighborhoods tend to have had better experiences with authorities. As for the individuals in these bad neighborhoods, they do not seem to have the best encounters with authorities. People who have these encounters seem to be racial profiled and tend to be a product of their environment. Also residence of drug or crime infested areas do not get responded to as quickly. To them it seems that the only reason police even come to their part of time is to find the worst. They don’t trust the police because police usually give them a reason not to trust them. Therefore they don’t cooperate with authorities when need be.

Now you have people instilling fear in others to keep quiet and not cooperate with authorities. A few individuals are threatening the life of others just to protect themselves. People are keeping quite instead of trying to help improve their neighborhood. They would rather be selfish and not help save lives and clean up their neighborhoods, because some criminal instilled fear in them. The places and environment you come from effect the way you respond to different situations. I understand they fear for their lives, but they can help save and improve the safety of their neighborhoods. There are neighborhoods all over the U.S. in cities like Los Angeles and New York City.

Under federal law it is a crime not to report a crime. The thing is prosecutors will have a hard time proving you had knowledge of the crime. There is witness protection, but there is no guarantee that a person will be put in that program. The witness protection program is for people who have witnessed the most horrendous of crimes, like mafia jobs. They get new identies and a new life to start over. But, in the neighborhoods mentioned above, these are people not at all likely to be put in witness protection.

Drug dealers in these social economically challenged neighborhoods know they scare people, because they have followers and machine power. People fear they will be beaten, badly injured, or killed by talking. The rule on snitching is an unwritten rule. People just know you aren’t supposed to do it, and they know what a possible punishment could be. This is why I think people become desensitized in their surroundings. Once they have become desensitized, things just began to blow over and not really matter like hearing gunshots.

I do not know what it will take to make people unafraid, so they can protect their neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods have fought back, where the community as a whole has testified against a person. If someone threatens to harm you or a loved one would you rat them out? A mother wants to protect child, so she will do everything in her power to protect her child. This would include keeping quiet about seeing things. Many of these situations happen in the African American community. Much of the times you’re not going to hear about these situations anyway. If you do, it’s a short quick story then it disappears. These are behaviors that need to be changed. This was just a quick insight into how the environment and neighborhood and can cause a person to react in adverse ways.

These are links to videos regarding the violence in Chicago. A special report was done just in this city to show how violent it has become. Most of this has to do with children being mudered. These videos include victims families, police gang units, and community members discussing the issue.
